The Town of Chino Valley will again manage the animal shelter.

dogsandcatsBeginning July 1, 2011, the Town of Chino Valley will resume operation and management of the Town’s animal shelter. For the past 18 months the shelter has been operated by the Yavapai County Humane Society. Due to the Humane Society’s cost to operate the shelter and the Town’s current budget challenges the parties agreed the Town would resume shelter operations.

As in the past, the Town’s Animal Control, which operates within the Police Department, will pursue a no kill policy. To assist in this policy the shelter will not be accepting owner surrendered animals, animals not found within the Town limits or cats of any kind as the Town’s shelter has very limited space.

During the month of July the shelter will not maintain fixed public hours as we will be hiring and training new staff. Once things are up and running smoothly, permanent public hours will be established and posted.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the shelter is encouraged to contact the Town’s Animal Control Officer for more information. There are many areas volunteers can assist in including: walking dogs, socializing dogs, cleaning and care of animals, assisting with adoptions.

Additionally, any donations to the shelter are greatly appreciated. The following are items which are always needed: dog food, treats, blankets, towels, laundry soap, dish soap, bleach, paper towels, stainless steel food and water bowls, rubbing alcohol, Bernadine, cotton balls. Any money donations will be placed into a special fund to pay for treatment of injured animals. Donations can be dropped off at the Chino Valley Police Department at 1950 Voss Drive.

Any questions please call the Chino Valley Police Department (928) 636-4223
