Prescott’s 8th Annual National Recovery Month celebration will be held on September 10th at the downtown Prescott Courthouse Square from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The event titled, “Join the Voices for Recovery; Recovery Benefits Everyone,” helps spreads the message that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover from substance abuse.
Those suffering from addiction know that the disease does not just impact the person, but it impacts their families and friends as well. The event raises awareness of substance use and mental disorders, celebrates individuals in long-term recovery, and acknowledges the work of treatment and recovery service providers. Speakers will tell their personal stories of success from the individual and family perspective. Treatment and community resource providers will help answer questions. Food, music and activities for children will also be available.
Each year the Recovery Day Celebration draws hundreds of visitors to the Prescott Square. The event received a national award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) in the SAMHSA Recovery Month Awards Special Celebration Category for 2011.
“Our hope is that with increased access to prevention, treatment, and recovery support services, those in need of help and their families will find the appropriate treatment options,” said John Morris, Yavapai County Adult Probation Department Supervisor and MATFORCE Intervention Workgroup Member. “Learning from others who are in recovery and knowing how to find support or treatment services is key to successful recovery,” Morris added.
Prescott’s Recovery Day Celebration is sponsored in part by MATFORCE along with other Yavapai County agencies. For more information contact Becca Fields by phone at 928-776-7565 or by email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
