Former Senate President Russell Pearce will be the featured speaker for the Highway 69 Conservatives/Republicans next Tuesday, January 10. Pearce will be joined by Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, who announced on Wednesday that he is a candidate for the United States House of Representatives, District 4.
When the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission redrew the districts, the tentative final map they selected in December put Prescott and most of Yavapai County in District 4. Also in District 4 are parts of Pinal, La Paz, Maricopa, Mohave and Gila Counties. If Sheriff Babeu were to win the nomination and then the general election, he would be representing all of Yavapai County except for some portions of the Verde Valley.
Currently Congressman Paul Gosar is the representative for this area, but he resides in Flagstaff, and that district (CD1) is expected to lean Democrat. While Arizona State law does not require elected officials to live in their district, it frequently makes it harder to win votes if they are not residents. Representative Gosar will be holding a Town Hall Meeting at the Prescott Resort Thursday night (January 5th).
