On Thursday, February 4, 2010 at approximately 10:40 AM, a Highway Patrol Canine Officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop for following distance on Interstate 40 Milepost 115 west of Seligman, Arizona. The officer located approximately three pounds of high grade marijuana in the cargo area of a 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Emmanuel P. Wittig, 23, of Mustang, Oklahoma. During the traffic stop, the officer became suspicious of the driver’s behavior. Due to the officer’s training and experience, he determined the behavior to be consistent with illegal activity. The officer requested consent to search the vehicle and Wittig allowed the search of the vehicle. The officer located (20) glass mason jars containing high grade marijuana from Northern California. DPS seized the vehicle, a loaded 9mm handgun, and $179.00 in U.S. Currency. Wittig advised that he had paid $6000.00 for the marijuana and was transporting it back to Oklahoma. Approximate street value of the marijuana is $24,000.00.

On Friday, February 5, 2010 at approximately 9:00 AM, a Highway Patrol Officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop for following too close on Interstate 40 Milepost 123, west of Seligman, Arizona. The officer located approximately 10 pounds of marijuana in a rental vehicle driven by Shawn S. Harnden, 33, of Eureka, California. During the traffic stop, the officer became suspicious of the driver’s behavior. Due to the officer’s training and experience, he determined the behavior to be consistent with illegal activity. The driver refused consent to search and a DPS Canine narcotics detection canine was utilized which alerted to the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the location of ten pounds of high grade marijuana in the vehicle. DPS arrested the driver and seized $219.00 in U.S. Currency. Approximate street value of the marijuana is $100,000.00.
