Embry-Riddle Hosts Veterans Appreciation Event PDF Print E-mail

nationalguardbandPrescott, Ariz., October 26, 2009 -- The Prescott, Arizona campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is proud to announce a Veterans Appreciation Event in honor of all Veterans and their families on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the campus Activity Center. The 108th Army Band, Arizona National Guard based at the Papago Park Military Reservation in Phoenix will lead the evening of patriotic music and veteran acknowledgements. The evening will also include the Prescott Fine Arts Choir and the local recording artist, Justin Unger.

This is the first Embry-Riddle Veterans Appreciation Day to honor all veterans and the many sacrifices they make for our freedom. Embry-Riddle is proud to support our Veterans and this event is a way to recognize servicemen and women, our veterans, our current ROTC students, and Embry-Riddle Alumni who served our great nation. This is a day for everyone to unite and shake the hands of freedom.

All of the events that we have planned are intended to give thanks, remember the sacrifice, and honor all that have served and currently serve.” said Frank Ayers, Executive Vice President for the Prescott campus. “Our campus is proud to have this event and we hope to create an annual tradition”.

The 2-hour event will include guest presentations, music, acknowledgements and a special Marine Corp birthday and cake cutting celebration. Special thanks goes out to Prescott Veterans Hospital, Legend Aviation, Pro-Force Law Enforcement, Buck Up for Wounded Warriors, Heroes to Hometown, Prescott Transit, Cable One, Army ROTC and Air Force Detachment 028, ESGR Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve, and local community and government organizations.

In addition to Monday’s concert, Embry-Riddle will honor alumni who lost their life in service during a special ceremony and memorial dedication at 5:00 PM near the new campus amphitheater. They will also host a Freedom Run with distances of 5K and 2.5K on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 7:30 AM. Following the race, all participants will be encouraged to attend the Veterans Day Parade at the VA.
