July always reminds me of the fact that half of the year has passed and for those of us in the design and construction trade we are already thinking about our projects that will want to have a completion date before the holiday season begins in November. With this being said now is the time to get your renovation and remodeling projects in swing if you have a hope of completing before the holidays. To start something in August is even cutting it close if you are doing anything which will require a 6 or 8 week lead time for fabrication such as custom cabinetry and custom furniture pieces and even some window treatments.
Last month Building by Design had cameras rolling at a Design Showcase Event hosted in Prescott Floors’ newly expanded showroom located at 1239 Iron Springs Road in Prescott. It was a great “kick off” for the summer and a wonderful way to have national manufacturer representatives’ show off some new items which are now available and all the rage. So if you missed attending the actual Design Showcase Event do not worry; Building by Design covered all of the important aspects of what new items are available for your renovation projects everything from tile to fabrics to cabinetry and carpet.
In the world of fabrics we are seeing an influx of grey; this is the color de jour and will probably be a popular choice for several years. Here is a tip; when you start seeing a color in clothing/fashion it will eventually show up as a color used in fabrics for the interior of your home. Observing fashion trends is another way to observe and be aware of interior design trends.
For carpeting shags are still in and do not seem to be going anywhere at the moment except for on peoples’ floors! The shags of today are a little different than the shag carpeting of the 70’s they are thicker and more plush and Prescott Floors has a huge selection not only of shag carpeting but of Stanton’s printed carpets which are not only great for wall to wall installations but also make fantastic area rugs.
Tile is venturing further and further into the realm of replicating and duplicating the look as well as feel of real stone products in a porcelain or ceramic material. The reason for this is sustainability and ease of maintance. Real stone has more care and maintenance than ceramic or porcelain tiles.
Cabinetry continues to evolve with regard to unique finishes and manufacturing processes. The most noticeable change in cabinetry is high-end veneer products of exotic types of woods with unusual finishes. The thought behind this design trend is that since kitchens are a key room and focal point for many homes then to so should the cabinetry be a focal item.
My brief descriptions might not be sufficient to completely describe the vast array of products which are new and readily available for incorporation into your remodeling or new construction projects. Do not worry because Building by Design had the opportunity to interview and film representatives from Stanton Carpets, Ultra Craft Cabinetry, American Olean Tile as well as Kravet Fabrics and a few others at the Design Showcase Event so there is no better way to complete this week’s column than to turn you over to our cameras. So it is time once again to sit back, relax and enjoy watching this episode of Building by Design and learn more about the new products available in the design world.
