The Dewey-Humboldt Town Council will meet at 6:30 tonight. Council will hear a presentation of preliminary data and findings on the project to review the Town's user fees and indirect cost allocation plan. Other discussion items include the town's goals for environmental remediation in certain sites and a public hearing on proposed text amendments involving special purpose signs. At 3 tomorrow afternoon, the Dewey-Humboldt Open Space and Trails Advisory Committee will meet to discuss Arizona Trails 2010, Committee input on open space and trails and ways to increase public outreach and involvement in the open space and trails process. Both meetings will be held in Council Chambers on Highway 69. Us Senator Jon Kyl and U.S. Senate candidate JD Hayworth are scheduled to be in the Prescott area today. Senator Kyl, who currently serves as Republican Whip, will make a presentation at noon at the Stoneridge Golf Club in Prescott Valley. This event is open to the public, but lunch costs $50 and seating is limited to the first 150 guests. From there, the Senator will participate in a Town Hall meeting sponsored by the Yavapai TEA Party. The Town Hall runs from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Yavapai College Performance Hall in Prescott. Former GOP Congressman JD Hayworth, who announced yesterday he will be challenging 4 term Republican Senator John McCain in the August primary, will be at the Prescott Adult Center on East Rosser Street starting at 7:30. He will make his official US Senate announcement and will take questions from the audience. A meeting related to the Prescott Unified School District Superintendent search will be held at 8 tomorrow morning. The Board will discuss the interview process, the selection of interview questions and adjustment of the timeline and search components as necessary. The Board may go into a closed executive session to review applications for the position, then it will reconvene into open session to consider candidates for interviews and the interview schedule. The deadline for applicants was last Friday, and according to Board member Andy Newton, narrative questions were established to help in the selection process: The meeting will be held in the District Office boardroom on South Granite Street. The Town of Chino Valley is continuing its process to select a new Town Manager. Current Town Manager Jerry Stricklin will be retiring in early April and 4 candidates have been selected to be interviewed by Town Council members this Thursday. Council is inviting residents to an informal meet and greet reception for the prospective candidates from 6 to 7:30 that night at the Town Senior Center, located on West Butterfield Road. During yesterday's Q&A with Sandy Moss Show on KQNA, 1130 AM and 99.9 FM, President of the Chino Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Board Charlie Arnold explained what role the Chamber is playing in the selection process: At the Senior Center at 6 tonight, Town Council will meet to discuss Chino Valley water issues in general, as well as the history and purpose of the draft Water Sustainability and Conservation Concept. Residents will be given an opportunity to ask questions and make comments on the draft concept. Prescott National Forest fire managers plan on burning slash piles this week. Weather conditions permitting, piles on Spruce Mountain and at various locations in Groom Creek and Ponderosa Park will be treated tomorrow through Friday. Specific days to burn are determined by current and expected weather patterns. Depending on conditions, any of the areas may be treated during the 3 day period. The piles will be monitored and allowed to completely burn themselves out. Smoke may be visible in the surrounding areas. Last week, fire managers were unable to burn any acres due to weather conditions. The Prescott City Council will revisit its Rules of Procedure at 3 this afternoon. Council was scheduled to vote on changes to the Rules last month, but it was suggested more changes had to be made and further discussion was needed. Council intends to hold 2 meetings a month instead of 4, and some residents have raised concerns that not enough time would be given for public comment. As for the 5 minute time limit for comments, Councilwoman Tammy Linn explains that would be flexible: During discussions last week, resident Bill Richards made some suggestions, including one on one meetings between Council and residents and informal small group meetings. Richards says whatever Council members decide to do, they need to get word out to the public: Other changes involve the time for the public to request an item to be placed on the agenda for public comment, the elimination of study sessions and clarification of time for public comment. Council is expected to discuss further moving the public comment period from the start of the meeting to the end of it. City Clerk Liz Burke has indicated a change in the rules may not be needed on this item.
