karenfann_candidateKaren Fann, former Mayor of Chino Valley announced today that she will be a candidate for the Legislative District 1 seat, which is currently held by Representative Lucy Mason. Representative Mason will be term-limited at the end of 2010.

Fann's first stint at public service was when she was elected to the Prescott City Council. Later, after a move to Chino Valley, she ran unopposed for Mayor of that town. She says she feels blessed to have been an elected official for 11 years, and is ready to step up and serve her community again. Fann talks about how she came to the decision and some of the issues she'll face, such as water, infrastructure and the state budget:

Frustrated with the way that the federal stimulus dollars have been been spent, Fann said she believes that those tax dollars could have been better used in helping people find jobs and building infrastructure:

Fann said she has made a point of staying current on a wide variety of issues, even those she didn't face as mayor, such as education, technology and health care. And she's not afraid to do her homework, work hard, and thoughtfully tackle tough issues, such as immigration:

When asked what her biggest strength is, Fann spoke of her strong leadership skills, first hand knowledge of the district and the major issues this district must attack:

Fann said she will be launching a campaign website soon, but in the meantime, people can contact her at Arizona Highway Safety Specialists, 928.636.8934.

At this time, Fann is the first person to announce her candidacy for the LD 1 office.
