Sex Offender Arrested for Failing to Register

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, Sex Offender Compliance Detective, conducted an investigation resulting in the arrest of 44-year-old David Steltenpohl, who is subject to sex offender registration and failed to register as a sex offender in the State of Arizona.

Steltenpohl was arrested in August of 1986 by the Phoenix Police Department for Burglary and Sexual Assault. He was convicted of Attempted Sexual Assault in December of 1986 out of the Maricopa County Superior Court. Steltenpohl has been living in California and Iowa where he had registered as a sex offender, however when he returned to Arizona this year, he never registered with any Arizona law enforcement agency.

The YCSO detective became aware that Steltenpohl was in the Paulden, AZ., area last month, but he could not be located there. On October 6, 2012, Steltenpohl was contacted by YCSO patrol deputies in the 700 block of Walnut Street, Prescott, AZ., on an unrelated investigation. Information regarding Steltenpoh's whereabouts was forwarded to the Sex Offender Compliance Detective who confirmed a registration violation. Today, at about 1:15 PM, Steltenpohl was found at the residence on Walnut Street and arrested for one count of Failing to Register, a felony. He was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center.
