On May 1, 2013 at 12:18 pm Chino Valley Police and Yavapai County Sheriff’s office came upon a collision in the 900 block of N. Hwy 89. The collision involved 2 vehicles, a red Dodge p/u and a tan International Scout. The collision involved the ejection of one person resulting in response from Chino Valley Fire Department and Life Line Ambulance.
The investigation indicates both vehicles were traveling south on Hwy 89 in the slow lane. The tan Scout driven by Paul Elsner, a 79 year old Prescott resident, slowed and began to turn into a business when he was rear ended by the red Dodge driven by 65 year old Paulden resident Steven Dutton. The collision caused Mr. Elsner’s vehicle began to spin at which time the driver door opened and Mr. Elsner, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.
Mr. Elsner was treated for his injury by Chino Valley Fire Department and Life Line Ambulance personnel before being flown to Flagstaff Medical Center for advanced medical care. Mr. Dutton and all passengers were not injured. This collision caused the temporary closure of Hwy 89 to south bound traffic so medical aid could be provided to Mr. Elsner prior to transport.
The Chino Valley Police would like to take this opportunity to remind and urge the public to wear their safety belts at all times when driving or riding in a vehicle.
