No injuries are being reported following a couple of single vehicle accidents in Camp Verde over the weekend. At 1:15 on Friday afternoon, a truck ran through a fence and into the back of a Zachary Lane residence. The driver, who apparently had a blackout, received medical treatment on scene but refused transportation to the hospital. Luckily, the resident was in the front part of the home at the time of the accident. There is damage to the outside wall and house. On Sunday morning just before 6:30, fire crews found a semi on fire on southbound I-17. The engine compartment and cab were fully engulfed in flames. Crews were able to extinguish the fire to keep it from spreading into the front part of the trailer. While southbound I-17 was closed for a half-hour while crews performed suppression and clean up efforts, traffic was backed up past Montezuma Castle Highway until 4 that afternoon so the truck could be towed away.

The Cop Chat sessions have been taking place since February, and Dunn says the response has been good. All Cop Chat presentations are free and open to the public.

Cottonwood Police will soon have a more efficient way to get information out regarding emergency incidents. Currently Police dispatchers have to contact residents and businesses affected by such incidents as armed robberies and vehicle rollovers by phone. It is virtually impossible to contact each business and residence in a timely manner because dispatchers are receiving other 911 calls and updating first responders during a major incident. Under the new system, citizens and businesses that use landline phones will receive emergency notifications using the same information that 911 dispatchers get to identify the caller’s location. You will soon be able to sign up for notifications at the City’s website, cottonwoodaz.gov.

An option to receive non-emergency notifications, such as road closures or weather alerts is available. Cottonwood Police expect the Emergency Notification System to be fully functional by October.

Chino Valley Police are reporting no major problems with a Hell’s Angels boxing event and motorcycle run Saturday afternoon. The Arizona Nomads held the Chino Valley Shootout at Doreen’s Bar, which included youth and adult boxing matches. Police Commander Mark Garcia explains there was some concern from residents over this event. Garcia explains there was a heavy police presence over the weekend, as officers were taking a zero tolerance approach to threats and acts of violence. Following the first bouts, a motorcycle run involving more than 100 bikers started at Doreen’s, to North Highway 89 to Yuma Drive, then back to the bar. Yuma Drive was the site of a shootout between the Hell’s Angels and Vagos rival motorcycle gangs 2 years ago today. Twenty-seven people were arrested and in June, assault charges against 7 men allegedly involved in the shootout were dropped.

The amount of Dewey-Humboldt Town Council meetings could be cut down in the coming months. Council holds its voting sessions on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Study sessions for discussion on items that may be voted on at a future meeting take place on the second Tuesday. Mayor Terry Nolan has made a request to amend Town Code to allow only 2 meetings a month. Special meetings would be scheduled as needed. Also during tonight’s 6:30 voting session, Council will discuss a joint meeting with the Planning and Zoning Commission. Council wants to be prepared by understanding the specific needs of the Commission. The meeting will be held in Council chambers on south Highway 69.

Two Milwaukee men allegedly tried to send drugs out of Chino Valley, and now they’ve been shipped out to jail. Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn explains the mail clerk at a Chino Valley business was concerned about the suspicious behavior of the men who dropped off 2 packages last Wednesday. The men paid more than 200 dollars to have the packages, which they claimed contained sweaters and shoes, sent back home. D’Evelyn says the clerk later found drugs in those boxes. In addition to a 5 ounce bag of cocaine, Partners Against Narcotics Trafficking detectives located 4 pounds of marijuana. Fifty year old Todd Brazeau and his 41 year old nephew Brandon Brazeau are now facing charges of possession of a narcotic drug and marijuana for sale.
