On March 19, 2011, at approximately 5:45 PM, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the report of an apparent deceased male floating in the Verde River. Deputies arrived in the 1300 block of Kelli Lane, Bridgeport, to confirm a body had been found. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau were on scene shortly thereafter to initiate an investigation.

The body was removed and taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy was completed Sunday. The Examiner’s report indicates drowning as the cause of death. The manner of death is listed as accidental.

Detectives have yet to identify the male. He appears to be Native American, in his 20’s and about 6 feet in height. He had an untreated and recently broken right tibia which may have caused him to walk with a limp shortly before he was last seen. Detectives are working leads based on tattoos found on the man’s body and will release further details as the investigation moves forward.

If anyone has information regarding the identity of this individual, please call YCSO at 928-771-3260 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1800-932-3232.
