Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs lost their second game of the season in an undeniably close game. Both teams proved tonight why they are quite possibly the teams to watch this season.
With the Americans on their first power play of the evening, Arizona quickly opened up with Schlemko scoring a short-handed goal just two in a half minutes into the game and Kyle Chipchura with the assist. Later in the period Pineault (Schaafsma and Ludwig with assists) tied the game when Allen scored their first goal on the power play. Allen demonstrated their ability to be a tough team on the ice with a couple hard hits to Maloney Jr. and Schussler during the 1st.
Heading into the second period the Americans, with six minutes left, were able to pull ahead when Jarrett Lukin scored against Adam Russo on the power play. Then two minutes later Bootland put up their third goal of the night giving them a 3-1 lead over the Sundogs. Jason Morgan closed the deficit with two minutes remaining in the period with assists being credited to Bedard and Smyth.
At the end of the 2nd period the Americans took a delay of game penalty putting the Sundogs back on a power play at the top of the 3rd. 17:59 into the game Mario Larocque (Schlemko and Cody Purves with the assists) chipped the puck toward the net where it deflected off Purves and tied the game 3-3 on the cusp of the power play. Sundogs caught a break when Allen served two back to back penalties giving the Sundogs four minutes on the power play but were unable to answer. Russo made the save of the night when Pineault and Maiani broke out in a straight away but were denied by Russo's experienced maneuvers.
With neither team able to pull ahead in the 3rd they were forced into overtime where Allen had the man advantage for 0:42 while Jeff Kyrzakos served a penalty for too many men on the ice. For the next five minutes Arizona and Allen battled it out, both only able to get one shot on goal. Still tied at the end of overtime they went into a five-man shootout where the Americans prevailed against the Sundogs.
The Sundogs picked up their first point and ended their first road series of the season and will be back in Prescott Valley to open up against the Missouri Mavericks on Friday October 27th at 7:05pm.
