Prescott Film Festival brings Broadway's Finest

A comedy/drama/action movie, Broadway’s Finest follows the adventures of three hopeful actors (ably played by John Lavelle, Nick Cornish and Adam Storke) as they try to write a play based on a real life news story. The basis of the play is an improvisation they devise, based on the story of “The Chemist”, a drug manufacturer whose product is killing addicts in New York City. When a producer becomes interested in their story, they realize they need to write a full play in a week to achieve their dreams.

Being actors they decide to get the material they need by acting out the story—that of a pair of cops and their informant. Wild action ensues as they pursue “The Chemist.” We also get to see a little of their private lives and motivations.

The story was written and directed by Stephan Marrow. This is his first feature length film. He also has written and directed a couple of short films and some award winning commercials. Perhaps it is his commercial experience that allows him to tell whole volumes of story in just a few scenes.

The music in this film definitely deserves praise. Ben Goldberg and Marshall Grantham have provided a score which enhances the story without intruding.

Although Broadway’s Finest is as yet unrated, it would probably be considered an R based on some language, brief sexual content and very brief nudity.

Broadway’s Finest will be shown Thursday August 2nd at 7:30 pm at the SNW (community room at Yavapai College) and Friday August 3rd at 7:30 pm at the Performing Arts Center at Yavapai College.
