A Cowboy Christmas is Right Around the Corner

19 November 2012   Tom Agostino
It's a busy season. Make these plans now, you'll be glad you did.

Celebrate A Cowboy Christmas at Prescott Center for the Arts this Holiday Season. On Saturday, December 15, three of Western music's finest performers Jon Messenger, Tony Norris and Katy Creek's Nancy Ruybal join together for the 3rd annual Holiday concert of Cowboy songs and stories.

Jon Messenger brings to his audiences the myth and beauty, spirit and truth of the American West, past, present, and future. A founding member of the Western trio, Rimfire, he also played guitar for the popular Raw Deal Bluegrass Band. An ongoing collaboration with Oklahoma's Call of the West produced the recording Ponydance, among the top five nominees for the Western Music Association's 2004 Song of the Year. The trio of musicians also collaborated on Jon's release, Spirits. The tune Spirits of Truth was nominated for Song of the Year by the WMA in 2005, and the recording was also among the top five nominees for Traditional Album of the Year. His most recent release, Blue Light Special, is an eclectic blend of tunes that constitute a most enjoyable departure from the norm. Jon's songs have been recorded by a number of Western artists, including Jim Jones, Allan Chapman, Jean Prescott, Chelsea Beck, Mark Brooks, and Call Of The West. Jon has found himself once again occupying a seat on the Western Music Association Board, and has served once again as the President of the Board from 2009-2012.

If Garrison Keillor were raised on cornbread and beans…
No western entertainer does it all with the warmth and wit of Tony Norris. Young and old alike are captivated by his homespun charm and rich tenor voice. With the accompaniment of his big Martin guitar and healthy doses of humor, he invites the adventurous spirit in each of us to leave the everyday world behind and journey into the old West. For 10 years, Tony hosted the open music sessions at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, and also has organized the music for the "Trappings of the American West" at the Coconino Center for the Arts, Flagstaff. He coordinated the Flagstaff Cowboy Poetry Gathering, "Riding the Rim" and was honored at the AWA Awards Ceremony in Ft. Worth as finalist for "Western DJ of theYear" in 2003.

Nancy Ruybal, the award-winning songwriter from Katy Creek, is known best in the Western music community for her unique style of cowboy music. Audiences are enraptured by an alluring vibrato voice that some declare is pure folk, while others deem perfect for gospel, swing or blues; each drawn in by sweet Celtic undertones that tug at the heart.
