Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Sherry Brown to the Chino Valley Unified School District Governing Board. The appointment was effective Tuesday, August 23, 2011 and will expire on December 31, 2012. The vacancy was due to the passing of long time Governing Board Member Bob Kaecker
Mr. Carter stated, “The residents of the District should be very proud of the fact that four extremely well qualified individuals, Kelly O’Brien, Randy Michaeu, Ab Jackson, and Sherry Brown applied for the position. They all have knowledge, experience, and talents that would have been beneficial to the Governing Board and the District. I sincerely hope that they each run for the Board in November of 2012, when three (3) seats will be open for election”.
Mrs. Brown and her husband have resided in the district for 5 years and she has volunteered with Big Brothers / Big Sisters, the Chino Valley Food Bank, and the Chino Valley Public Library.
Mrs. Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University in Humanities. She taught Special Education at all levels and retired in 2006.
Mr. Carter stated that “each candidate had their own unique strengths but Mrs. Brown appears to be the best fit to compliment the Governing Board at this time.”
Mr. Carter accepted letters of interest from residents before conducting interviews of those who applied. He then spoke individually with each of the elected members of the Governing Board and with district administration. He enjoyed receiving communications from several citizens who voluntarily shared their views of the candidates. Mr. Carter greatly appreciates the community involvement in this process, since it provides a valuable public perspective of the candidates.
Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-771-3326 (office) or 928-925-6560 (cell). Mrs. Brown may be reached at 928-626-7242.
