Manhattan Short Film Festival Brings Oscar-Worthy Shorts to Yavapai College Performing Arts Center October 6

Prescott film fans will get a unique chance to sample films from all over the world – and then cast a vote for their favorites when the 21st Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival screens, Saturday, October 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center.

Presented by the Yavapai College Film and Media Arts Program, the Manhattan Short Film Festival will feature nine finalist films. Each short film is pre-qualified for the Oscars. They were selected from a field of more than 1,500 short subject films, submitted from 73 countries.

After the screening, Prescott audience members will then act as part of a worldwide jury, casting their votes for the Best Film and Best Actor awards. The votes will be tabulated with those of other screening audiences – convened across the world the same week – to determine the winners.

The nine Manhattan Short finalists hail from eight countries with films from Austria, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Kosovo, New Zealand, USA, and two films from the United Kingdom. This year’s films represent an extraordinary range of genres that includes intimate dramas; fast-paced animation; spine-tingling tales; a World War II epic; and a comedy shot entirely underwater.

The Manhattan Short Film Festival’s nine finalists are:

Lacrimosa (Austria), Fauve (Canada), Someone (Germany), Chuchotage (Hungary), Her (Kosovo), Fire In Cardboard City (New Zealand), Baghead, (UK), Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times (UK), and Home Shopper (USA).

The winning film will be announced on Monday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. Arizona time, on Manhattanshort.com.

Tickets for the Manhattan Short Film Festival are $10 general admission, and $5 for YC students and staff. Tickets are available at the YCPAC Box Office, 1100 E. Sheldon Street, Prescott, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or call (928) 776.2000 (or 877-928-4253 toll free) or visit www.ycpac.com.
