The Yavapai College District Governing Board (DGB) held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 8 at the Prescott Campus Rock House. Comprised of elected Yavapai County residents from five districts, the DGB is responsible for governing on behalf of Yavapai County residents. Board members Dr. Connie Harris, Steve Irwin, Dr. Patricia McCarver, Deb McCasland, and Ray Sigafoos (Chair) were present at the meeting.
The Board unanimously approved an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the College, the Mayer Unified School District and the Yavapai County Free Library District to provide library services and academic resources for the community of Spring Valley.
The Board also approved a second amendment to the original IGA between the College and the Mountain Institute Joint Technical Education District (MIJTED) for administration of educational programs.
Regular Meeting Reports
Yavapai College President, Dr. Penny Wills, introduced Rodney Jenkins, the College’s new Vice President for Community Relations. Mr. Jenkins comes to the College from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, where he served as Vice President for University Relations.
Dr. Wills also presented on: the College’s August 14 Convocation; the September 12 Grand Opening of the renovated Sedona Center; and an award she accepted on the College’s behalf from the Prescott Valley Economic Development Foundation for “contributing to the economic vitality of Prescott Valley.”
Scott Farnsworth, Associate Vice President for Student Success joined Associate Vice President for Student Development, Tania Sheldahl, to present an update on the development of the College’s Pathways Project, a national movement focused on building capacity for community colleges to design and implement structured academic and career pathways for all of their students.
The Board will hold their annual Board Retreat Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Prescott’s Hassayampa Inn. The next regular board meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Yavapai College’s Sedona Center, 4215 Arts Village Drive, in Sedona.
