Small Burns Planned as Part of Annual Basin Operation Drill

Fire training drills planned this week.

Prescott, AZ (March 28, 2019) –– The annual multi agency “Basin Operation Drill” is planned for April 4th and 5th in the Granite Basin Recreation Area west of Prescott, Arizona. The drill will involve the Prescott National Forest, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, City of Prescott Fire, Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, Bureau of Land Management and multiple other response agencies. The annual basin operations drill provides all participants an opportunity to train together, test communication systems and equipment in preparation for the upcoming wildfire season.

For training purposes fire managers will simulate 3-6 small fires over the two days near Granite Basin Lake (T14N, R3W, Sec 2); pending favorable weather conditions. West Lake Trail 351 and Metate Connector 353; and Day-Use sites Cayuse, Wekuvde, the Boat Launch, Playa and Metate will be closed to the general public during the drill.
