Five Roughrider Baseball Players Named to All Region I Teams

5 Roughriders recognized; YC Roughriders play in NJCAA Region I Playoffs best of three series. 

As voted on the by the conference coaches, five Roughrider baseball players were named to the All-ACCAC/NJCAA Region I Teams for their efforts this year. Additionally, for the ninth time in YC baseball history, a Roughrider was named the ACCAC./NJCAA Region I Player of the Year.

Freshman Christian Encarncacion-Strand was voted as the Player of the Year in the conference for his Herculian efforts this year. The Pleasant Hill, California native was first in the league in in all categories, including:

  • batting average (.398)
  • slugging percentage (.823)
  • home runs (19)
  • RBI's (63)
  • doubles (18)

Playoff Weekend

The Roughriders head into the playoffs as the #3 seed and will play a best-of-three series at South Mountain Community College beginning Thursday, May 2nd with the first pitch being thrown at 2:00 PM. Game 2 will be played on Friday, May 3rd starting at 2:00 PM and, if necessary, Game 3 will be played on Saturday, May 4th beginning at 12:00 PM.


Yavapai College (34-16, 24-14) swept a doubleheader over Eastern Arizona College on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Roughrider Park, 11-0 and 10-4.

South Mountain (38-18, 25-13) swept a doubleheader over Pima Community College on Saturday, April 27, 2019, 7-1, 6-0

All time: Yavapai is 66-57 against the Cougars.

Last meeting: YC split a doubleheader with South Mountain on April 23, 2019 in Phoenix, winning the first game 1-0, and dropping the second game 8-3.

First ever meeting: On March 30, 1982, YC swept the Cougars 12-2 and 11-2.

The setting:The Roughriders are 19-13 on the road this year.
