On Sunday, September 28, 2014, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to an area on Route 66 near Fort Rock Road, Seligman, Arizona, regarding a motorcycle accident.
Following the initial investigation, deputies reported a 77-year-old motorcycle rider was following a white SUV support vehicle which had stopped. The rider, who was not paying attention, did not immediately notice the stopped SUV and collided with the right rear portion of the vehicle. Several witnesses were present and indicated the rider had locked his brakes and attempted to swerve around the SUV just before the collision. Estimated speed has not yet been indicated.
The rider was wearing a helmet and pronounced deceased at the scene. Specific details on the cause of death have not been reported.
The driver of the SUV was not impaired and no charges are expected.
The deceased man is a Swedish citizen and there is an ongoing effort via the Swedish Consulate to notify his family of the death. His name will be released once the notification has been confirmed.
