November 3: The investigation into this incident continues today. The deceased man has been identified as 50-year-old Paul Ries from Maricopa, Arizona. Detectives completed an extensive interview of the man who shot Ries and continue to document statements from several witnesses to the incident. An investigator from the County Attorney’s office was briefed on the circumstances. The shooter was released yesterday pending completion of the investigation by YCSO detectives and review of final case reports by the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office.
Detectives continue to seek witnesses who may have seen the apparent road rage dispute and resulting collision along south Highway 69 in the Mayer/Spring Valley area around 12:30PM yesterday. The two vehicles involved were a white Chrysler 200 sedan driven by Ries, and silver Toyota Tacoma pick-up driven by a 59-year-old male. PRELIMINARY INFORMATION – Just after 12:30 PM this afternoon, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a shooting incident on Highway 69 near Mayer High School, Spring Valley, Arizona. Department of Public Safety Officers were already on scene and indicated a man in his late 40’s had been shot and transported to a local hospital. A 59-year-old man was currently detained and identified as the shooter. Within the hour, deputies were notified that the man who was shot had died.
Witnesses indicated the two individuals, each in their own vehicle, were in some type of traffic dispute while driving south on Highway 69. The deceased man, driving a white Dodge sedan, apparently confronted a man driving a silver Toyota truck on side of the road following a collision.
The shooter remained on scene and is being interviewed by YCSO detectives who are currently investigating the incident. A handgun has been recovered. No arrests have been made as of this writing and further details have not been disclosed.
