Cold Front Headed Towards Northern Arizona

27 March 2016
Don’t put away your winter jackets just yet.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to drop drastically on Tuesday. Look for a high near 47º, and an overnight low around 25. Wednesday will warm up slightly, with a high near 51, and the low back down to 26º.

By Thursday, the high will creep up to 56º with a slight chance of showers, but the low will continue to be below freezing.

What to do about your plants?

Last year, Ken Lain from Watters Garden Center offered tips and tricks for protecting your spring plants from frost and freeze. You’re going to want to use those tips this coming week. It’s especially important for fruit trees, tomatoes, basil and early spring plantings.

1. Move container plants inside if possible.

2. Water the plants thoroughly.

3. Cover the rest with sheets.

4. Do you have any old Christmas tree lights? You know, the kind with the big bulb? String those to your trees. They’ll provide some extra warmth.
