PRESCOTT VALLEY- Chino Valley High School Principal Wes Brownfield for the last six years has watched countless students cross the stage in late May to receive their high school diploma. A high school dropout before joining the army and getting his GED while in uniform-later earning an undergraduate degree-,Brownfield had one wish upon leaving, to witness that same moment he has watched so many experience.

“All I want is a high school diploma,” Brownfield said he told those who asked what we wanted for a going away present.

Once the final graduate received their diploma on Wednesday night at the Prescott Valley Event Center, Brownfield was handed his diploma and a replica of the new Cougar statue which will be placed on the school in August.

“I had no idea they were going to do that, I didn’t realize I signed my own diploma,” Brownfield said.

Brownfield now joins the one-hundred and fifty-five graduates at Chino Valley High School in the Class of 2017, a journey which started after making a life change and getting into education during his mid-40's.

“I got the best job any man can ever want, I became a high school principal,” said Brownfield who previously spent time as an educator in schools across Arizona. “Been a heck of a ride and more fun then you can ever imagine.”

While leaving his position as a high school principal, Brownfield will continue on with education as he expects to become the next Executive Director of Arizona Rural Schools Association.
