Bill's Newscast: Tree Thinning

17 December 2018
Tree thinning near Groom Creek.

Watch for delays on I-17 near Bumble Bee Road and on Schemmer Drive in Prescott this week.

ADOT crews will be recovering a truck that rolled off I-17 last week. There were no fatal injuries. Southbound I-17 will have the right lane closed from 7 tomorrow morning to 1 Wednesday morning and from 7 Wednesday morning to 1 Thursday morning. Meanwhile, the City of Prescott and contractor ALC Underground are working on a utility improvements project on Schemmer drive. Work includes the installation of a new water line along Miller Valley Road, from Rodeo Drive to near Schemmer. In addition, a new drainage culvert will be installed from the Schemmer intersection, crossing Miller Valley Road and ending at Miller Creek. This project is part of a development agreement and cost sharing effort with the Creekview Village Apartments, currently under construction. This phase is scheduled for completion this winter. Work hours are 6 pm to 5 am through this Thursday.

Thinning of trees on Prescott National Forest land to reduce the wildfire danger is underway.

A contractor is using heavy equipment on 695 acres. The Schoolhouse Stewardship Project is located between Senator Highway and White Spar Road. Operations are dependent on the weather and soil conditions, but visitors can expect equipment to be in the area for the next 2 to 4 months. Several sections of this project are located near Goldwater Lakes Trail, which is part of the Prescott Circle Trail. Portions of the Circle Trail and other trails will be periodically closed and users will be rerouted. The 396 Trailhead, located on White Spar Road, could be temporarily closed during thinning work. Numerous signs will be posted to make trail users aware of this work, closures and alternate routes.
