Roughrider Baseball Team Goes 3-1 Over Weekend

Yavapai’s record is now at 7-5.

The Roughrider baseball team split a pair of games Friday in Henderson winning the first game against College of Southern Idaho, 12-2 and dropping the nightcap to College of Southern Nevada, 8-7. YC is now 5-5 on the young season.

In the opener, Matt Mendibles led the Roughriders to the lopsided victory by driving in five runs. He went 2-for-2 at the plate. Mendibles drove in runs on a home run in the fourth and a double in the fifth.

YC scored six runs in the fifth inning aided by a double by Mendibles, a single by Carlos Viera, a stolen base by Dylan Enwiller, and a single by Adbiel Morales.

Avery Weems earned the win for hardballers. He threw five innings, allowing two runs, seven hits, striking out five, and walking one.

YC collected 12 hits. Morales, Enwiller, Viera, Jeddediah Fagg, and Mendibles each collected multiple hits.

In the second game, YC lost despite out-hitting Southern Nevada eleven to ten. However, they also committed 6 errors.

Yavapai took an early lead in the first inning. Carlos Viera led off the game with a home run. Southern Nevada took the lead with 4 runs in the third. Yavapai regained the lead with two in the fourth and two more in the fifth. 

Yavapai relinquished the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning after pushing one run across in the top of the sixth. In the top of the 8th, the good guys scored the go ahead run only to surrendered the lead and the victory in the bottom of the ninth inning. 

Yavapai College Roughriders Varsity had 11 hits in the game. Dylan Enwiller, Trevor Edior, and Viera each collected multiple hits with Viera and Edior managing three hits to lead Yavapai.


The Roughrider baseball team won a pair of games on Saturday in Henderson, NV over Eastern Uath, 8-4 and Salt Lake, 5-1. Yavapai improves to 7-5 on the season.

An early lead helped the Roughriders defeat Eastern Utah on Saturday. YC scored in the first inning on a solo home run by Dylan Enwiller and a two-run homer from Caden Goldby.

Yavapai added single runs in the third, fourth and ninth innings and added two runs in the sixth inning.

The Riders had 14 hits in the game. Jonathan Villa, Goldby, Trevor Edior, and Enwiller each collected multiple hits. Goldby and Villa each managed three hits.

Reza Aleaziz started the game from the mound and got the victory scattering five hits and striking out 2.

In the nightcap, Yavapai faced Salt Lake for the fifth time in six days. The game remained scoreless through the first five innings of the game before the Roughriders put 2 runs on the board in the sixth inning and 3 runs in the seventh inning. Salt Lake scored their lone run in the ninth inning.

Jake Kolterman earned the win for the Roughriders. He tossed six innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, and striking out six. RJ Martinez recorded the last nine outs to earn the save.

YC collected 11 hits. Enwiller, Fagg, and Jacob Eder each collected multiple hits with Eder and Fagg each managing three hits.

Yavapai returns to action on Tuesday, February 14th against Benedictine College in Mesa. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
