Badgers Look To Get Even

13 September 2019
Bradshaw Mountain and Chino Valley also on the road

Prescott Badgers (1-2) at Deer Valley Skyhawks  (1-1), Deer Valley H.S., Glendale, 7pm

The Badgers travel to Glendale to face Deer Valley who is coming off a 28-0 win over Thunderbird, after a 54-7 season opening thumping by Arcadia. Prescott had little resistance in beating Moon Valley 48-6 last week.

Last season the Badgers beat Deer Valley 56-7 at Prescott High School.

Deer Valley is led by quarterback junior Tanner Conaway, who has completed 72% of his pass attempts, with one touchdown in the two games. Senior Charles Hill and sophomore Ashton Hill, are in the backfield. Hill has also been Conaway's favorite target when throwing. Trent Green has the touchdown reception and is averaging nearly 20 yards a catch. The Skyhawk defense has five interceptions with Trent Green leading the way with two.

The Badgers look to even their season record with a win over the Skyhawks. Prescott left little doubt on the outcome of last weeks game at Ken Lindley Field.  Dellin Boyd runs the offense and has thrown for 268 yards with two touchdowns, but three interceptions. On the ground Boyd has gained 162 yards and two scores. Sylas Espitia has 164 yards with four TDs. Trey Kohler leads the team with nine receptions and tied with Aaron Greene and Nathan Briseno with a touchdown each. Sam Giordan and Nathan Wright lead the team in tackles.

Look for Deer Valley to try and run the ball, but may be require to discount that option if they find some space in the Badger secondary. Meanwhile the Badgers should be able to flex their muscles again with the ground game. The ability of Boyd to tuck the ball and run on pass plays is always a credible threat.

Game time at Deer Valley High School is 7pm, with a 101* forecasted temperature. You can listen to the game on 1490am KYCA, beginning with the pregame show at 6:45pm.

Bradshaw Mountain Bears (2-1) at Greenway Demons (2-0), Greenway H.S., Phoenix, 7pm

The Bears will get their first test as they travel to face a Division IV top ten opponent in the Greenway Demons. The Demons are coming off wins over Estrella Foothills 33-13, and Sierra Linda 51-12.

Last season the Bears beat the Greenway 42-20 in Prescott Valley.

The bulk of the Demons offense comes from Christian Johnson, who has 378 yards and seven touchdowns. Aodhan Murphy has thrown for two touchdowns, but has four interceptions, while completing just 40% of his pass attempts. Daymon Neal has three receptions with two for touchdowns. The defense is lead by middle linebacker Nick Deaver.

The Bears are led by Josh Grant, who has been able to run as well as throw. Besides Grant, 190 yards and three touchdowns, Titus King has 178 yards and five touchdowns. Alex Cabral has score three times with five receptions. Noah Shaver is averaging 15.7 tackles, with Alex Cabral and Mason Stultz each having four sacks.

The big question is can Bradshaw Mountain slow down Christian Johnson and force the Demons to throw the ball. If the Bears can do that, plus have long offensive drives, then this could be a very interesting game.

Look for game time temps around 100*. The game can be heard on The Cloud 95.9fm at 7pm.

Chino Valley Cougars (1-2) at Camp Verde Cowboys (1-1) at Camp Verde H.S., 7pm

The Cougars are coming of a big 50-0 win over Tuba City last week and will be challenged this week by the Cowboys. Last year the Cougars beat the Cowboys 42-0.

Campe Verde is led in the backfield by duel threat qb Jacob Oothoudt. Peyton Kelly, Garrett Dulaney, and Kayden Boggess will all see their share of carries in the backfield.

Quarterback Jayden Smith leads Chino Valley with 389 yards, four TDs, and two pics, while completing 60% of his passes. Trevor Gianfrancesco leads the team in rushing with 115 yards. J.R. Willingham and Jacob Gilpin lead the receiver corp, with Gilpin scoring twice, and one for Willingham.

Gianfrancesco, Willingham, and Collin Knight lead the defensive charge with double digit tackling averages.

Game time is at 7pm with temps in the upper 80s.
