Chino Valley High School Freshman Keller Rock Looks to Bring Home State Championship
PRESCOTT VALLEY-Chino Valley High School has been represented well on the mats of a state championship in wrestling during the program’s history. However, this season provides something a bit different-a freshman will be competing for a state championship.

Freshman Keller Rock defeated Yuma’s Alfonso Porchas by four points on Thursday night at the Prescott Valley Event Center during the semi-final matchup of the state playoffs in the division three 138-pound weight class to punch his ticket to the championship round at 7pm on Friday against Jacob Rios from Surprise, Arizona.

“Partially my goals have come true,” Rock said. “But if I win tomorrow (Friday) which I plan on doing, my goal for the season will be accomplished.”

Already having experience in a state championship environment during freshman year will continue to help Rock develop in the future.

“He’s got the best work ethic of anyone who’s ever come through our program,” Cougars’ head coach Allan Foster said. “The sky is the limit for Keller Rock.”

Senior Austin Elhert also represented Chino Valley in the state finals, losing to Yuma’s Jose Bugarin in the second round of the consolation bracket for the division three 126-pound weight class.
